To answer a couple of other questions: it was supposed to have taken about 2 weeks, give or take a couple of days. They run the race every two years, so I expect he'll make another try in 2012!

race update...
Well, good news and bad news... the good news is that Al is fine. The bad news is that his radio crapped out, and you can't do an ocean race without a radio. So, I had a call from the race chair to let me know he was scrapping it and heading home --

That must have been a terrible disappointment. But what an adventure! Scares the heck out of me to think about it.
oh, bummer! What a crappy thing to have go wrong (and yet? At least it was something minor!

I'm sure Mr. Floribunda is quite disappointed...but I'm certainly thankful that he's safe and able to look forward to the next race! Are you still *meeting* up with him in Hawaii?! ;-)
Aaargh! How heartbreaking ... I think you both need a trip to Hawaii to recover from the disappointment ;-)
