do your friends know?

I've been writing this blog for more than two years now, but for some reason I never told any of my "real" (as opposed to "virtual") friends about it -- other than my sister, but only because she didn't have a blog and it's rare that I get ahead of her on something like that!

My husband once remarked that he thought I was the sort of person who would have a blog, and I just smiled.

So: do your friends know that you have a blog? Do they read and comment on it?

I finally broke through and did "true confessions" to one of my two mini-groups yesterday. They had been watching me make those green blocks and I wanted to have them see photos of the various layouts, and besides -- they're my friends, for heaven's sake! What was I waiting for?

My sister is visiting from Tasmania for a couple of weeks -- she does all sorts of textile-y things and we are planning a trip to Dharma Trading tomorrow for dyeing supplies. She's done it before but I haven't... can't wait! I'm always impressed by other people's hand-dyes. I just need to try to narrow down a color range to start with.

I started blogging so my far-flung family could see what I was doing. I have let some of my friends know about the blog, but it has been a gradual process. Many of them don't know. I find I now write first for my internet quilting friends and second for my family. I have to remind myself that some friends and neighbors also read it.

Great that your sister is here! Have fun coloring all that fabric.

OMG, a shopping trip to Dharma! I'm so jealous! All of my friends and most of my co-workers know that I have a blog. My best friend's boyfriend has even asked to be on my blog! LOL!

Most of my friends knows I'm a blogger and visit my blog often. Why hide you are a blogger?? I've even got many of my friends starting to blog :)

My family knows I have a blog. A couple of my co-workers know I have a blog. The quilting friends I know have a blog. I guess just about everyone I know knows I have blog. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Have fun dying fabric this weekend.

Well, most of my friends are of the fiber variety! In fact, most of my IRL friends here are people that I met through blogging.

I started my blog so that my mom in Pittsburgh could see what I was up to in California. Now it's in large part so my friends in California can see what I'm up to in Pittsburgh!

I do scrupulously avoid mentioning the blog to the two entities I complain about most frequently: my in-laws and my job. I try very hard to not mention anything work-ish that could lead my current boss back to HPWT, but you never know.

I have three friends that know...oddly, none of the friends know each other and one of them is a quilter that I met online. None of my family or coworkers know. The Husband knows but more because he wonders what I'm doing online all of the time. I doubt he ever reads it.

My husband knows because he surprised me with my own domain for it not too long after I started blogging. It's only been fairly recently that my mother, father, and aunt will read it. Then it's kind of funny. For the most part people IRL don't really read it (my hubby rarely checks it out). I'll forget that the ladies in my doll club know about it until they mention how they read that on the blog.

Basically I keep all postings fairly safe without much complaining ... it makes it a much more cheerful place as a result. :-)

Funny you should mention it - I'm the same. My sister knows about it and reads it occasionally, but noone else does, and I like it like that. Sometimes it's nice to have somewhere you can go and say what you like without worrying about who might read it. Some of my internet friends are pretty good friends these days, although we've never met. I'm also on a beagle email list that is limited to 60 people (many of who don't post very often), and I've been on that for about 10 years I think. Luckily it is a list where you can talk about anything, not just our beagles, and I've met all of the Aussie members over time. It's like a little community, and you soon figure out who you have things in common with. Love your green quilt with all the lovely points - beautiful!

I don't hide the fact That I blog and will mention it at work if the subject crops up but I can't say that it does all that often! My family (parents and sister) know but have no interest in it and my husband reads every post as soon as I have done it but will not simply read it on my laptop, even if he is in the room when I do it as he often is. He insists on booting up his own laptop and reading it on that!

My family knows I have a blog, but they don't know the address. I like it better that way. Some of my friends know and I'm surprised that they actually read it, since they're not quilters. My quilt group here knows about it and I'm always surprised about how much they know about my life when we meet each month. I love that your husband thinks you're the blogging type, but doesn't know!

I'm so gald that you brought this up! I haven't told anyone about my blog except one quilting friend. She also has one and hasn't told anyone but me. I've thought about why I'm being rather secretive but haven't really come up with a reason.. I do like it this way, though.
